Fair Park Update - May, 2011

Dear Fair Park Supporters:

Celebrating mothers, flowers, and spring festivals bring us joy this month of May. The grounds are at their best and are being enjoyed by thousands of children visiting the park in the final stretch of the school year. If you haven‚'t visited Fair Park in the past month, you are missing out on the colorful bouquet of foliage and the best of spring weather.

Tens of thousands will converge on Fair Park this weekend for Univision‚'s Cinco de Mayo festival.

Set for Sunday, May 1st, this annual free outdoor festival will delight music enthusiasts all day with three stages of diverse regional music. Be sure to sample the rich Mexican foods and the offerings of the various vendors. The festival is being presented by the Texas Lottery. More information is available at www.univision.com

The entire family can honor and celebrate Mom at Fair Park by visiting the Texas Discovery Gardens for their Mother‚'s Day Concert: Women‚'s Chorus of Dallas on Sunday, May 8th.

For more information follow the link http://texasdiscoverygardens.org/.

A star-studded night for the Dallas Summer Musicals comes on May 7th for the annual Curtain Call Gala.

The annual DSM fundraiser will feature country music performing artist Blake Shelton and highlight a spectacular live and silent auction, gourmet seated dinner and a fantastic live show to follow. For your tickets go online to http://www.dallassummermusicals.org/.

Gold Metal Recyclers was honored as the recipients of the 18th Annual Spirit of Centennial Award by Friends of Fair Park.

We are most appreciative for their outstanding commitment to Fair Park and their leadership in making the 2010 Fair Park Fourth on the 5th fireworks finale a reality. They have committed to sponsor the 2011 fireworks as well. Please join me in thanking them.
I also want to thank the 72 Starbucks employees who spent their Saturday volunteering at Fair Park recently. Their hard work at mulching the Old Mill flower beds, removing weeds, debris and algae from the Lagoon and planting seasonal color beds at Nimitz and Keating have made a noticeable difference.

Thank you Starbucks employees for your outstanding volunteer work and efforts at Fair Park.
We are creating new opportunities for you to learn more about Fair Park‚'s history, architecture and art.

Fair Park expert and author, Willis Winters, will conduct Saturday morning tram tours on May 21, June 18, July 23, and August 20.

Tram tours will depart from Fair Park‚'s Magnolia Lounge at 9:00 am. Space is limited so sign up early through Friends of Fair Park at (214) 426-3400.

We look forward to seeing you this month in Fair Park.
