State Fair of Texas
The site that we now call Fair Park hosted the first state fair of Texas in 1886.
Today's state fair is just a wee bit bigger than that one...
The modern State Fair of Texas is a marvel of entertainment, education, exposition and organization.
It pumps more than $350 million into the economy of Dallas during its 24-day run.
It offers more than 70 amusement rides and 370,000 square feet of exhibits, including the newest automobiles on the market and the best jams and jellies found anywhere in the Lone Star State.
It judges more than 8,000 livestock entries and more than 7,000 creative arts entries each year.
- More than 200 locations across the fairgrounds serve food and ride and food revenues together total almost $36 million over the course of just one fair.
What many people may not know, however, is that the fair also has a scholarship program designed to encourage young people to make education their top priority. Since 1992, that program has awarded more than $3 million in new and renewed college grants to eligible students.
It also showcases world-class entertainment, from celebrity chefs in the Celebrity Kitchen, to music sensations on the Chevrolet Main Stage. And, oh yes, don't forget those Fletcher's Corny Dogs.
The State Fair of Texas runs each year from late September to late October throughout Fair Park.
