The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park

The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park belongs to The Dallas Zoo organization and opened in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial celebration.

Housed in its original Art Deco building, the Aquarium is home to a varied collection of thousands of aquatic animals. These include marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.

Interesting aquatic animals on view include:
  • snapping turtles
  • lionfish
  • electric eels
  • seahorses
  • shrimpfish
  • alligator gars and
  • batfish, among many others
The Dallas Aquarium participates in many national and international conservation and research projects. Along the way, it has achieved many "firsts" in the captive breeding of such critically endangered Texas species as the Comal Springs salamander, the Texas blind salamander, and several desert fishes already extinct in nature.

The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park is currently closed and will reopen in fall 2010 as the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park.

You’ll find The Dallas Aquarium between the Texas Star Ferris wheel and the Fair Park Band Shell.
