Sculptures, dancing water and an assortment of fun for all ages will be on tap at MetroPCS Fair Park Holiday on Sun., Dec. 6, from 2 – 7 p.m. at Fair Park (1300 Robert B. Cullum Blvd., Dallas, Tex., 75201).
Presented by Friends of Fair Park along with the City of Dallas, the family-friendly festival will feature the unveiling of the newly renovated Esplanade Fountain with Bellagio-style “dancing water” shows, entertainment, kids activities, free museum visits, and more.
Two original re-creations of the 1936 sculptures will also be introduced – Tenor and Contralto, which adorned the Esplanade Fountain during the Texas Centennial Exposition.
Free and open to the public, guests can enjoy free admission to Fair Park museums from 3 – 6 p.m.; “dancing water” performances synchronized to music and holiday tunes at the newly renovated Bellagio-style Esplanade Fountain (show times at 2, 3 and 4 p.m., and following the tree lighting ceremony); a Dallas Wind Symphony Quartet concert at 4:30 p.m.; entertainment by the Inner City All Stars, and various gospel choirs and dance groups; and more.
At Santa’s Workshop, children can take part in arts and crafts including do-it-yourself gift wrapping, pine cone trees, ornament-making and jewelry-making; pictures with Santa; inflatable obstacle course and slide; and other kids activities inside the Centennial Building. The Holiday Gift Market presented by The 500 Inc. will offer an assortment of quality merchandise, gifts and holiday décor also inside the Centennial Building.
Cowboy fans can congregate outside the Centennial Building for a Dallas Cowboys/New York Giants watch party at 3:15 p.m. presented by 1540 AM ESPN Deportes.
The official City of Dallas Tree Lighting Ceremony will get underway at 6 p.m. and will include a special candlelight tribute to the men and women who currently serve or have previously served in the U.S. military. An Esplanade Fountain holiday water show will follow.
The Dallas Youth Council (formerly the Dallas Youth Commission) will sponsor “Just Bring It”, a toy and book drive benefitting economically disadvantaged children in the Dallas community. Visitors are encouraged to drop off new books and toys at the end of the Esplanade along the Court of Honor.
Admission is free for MetroPCS Fair Park Holiday. Parking is $10 and available at Gate 2 (Perry Ave. and Haskell Ave.). Or ride DART’s Green Line to the Fair Park Station.
Concessions will be sold including cider, hot chocolate and other holiday fare. A nominal fee will apply for pictures with Santa ($5) or snap your own shots for free.
